My story starts like many other women who had
grandmothers and mothers who sewed out of necessity. My grandmother earned money mending clothes
for friends and family and worked under the moto, use it up, wear it out, make
it do, or do without. Grandma’s quilting
friends repurposed clothes to make beautiful quilts and cardboard to make pattern
templates. I loved being in her sewing
room and being apart of the creativity, colors and the satisfaction of a job
well done.
At a very young age I was proficient at embroidery
and cross stitching and made many gifts and treasures for friends and family. My
Young Women’s project was cross stitching a Temple for a treasured friend.
My first sewing machine was a yard sale find,
and I was thrilled. I’m convinced that heavy Singer will live through the apocalypse. The Singer made clothes and started me on my
way to quilting.
Learning new techniques, tips and tricks including
ways to see beautiful designs in is a way to keep things exciting.
My sewing machines have names, “Florence” is the
1953 Featherweight (after my Grandmother), and the Bernina 770 bears the name “Evelyn
Louise Rose”, (after my favorite Home Economics Teacher).
I look forward to quilting retreats with
friends and spending time in my two sewing rooms filled with an oasis of color
and comfort.
Quilts drape the chairs, railings, walls and
beds of my home. Quilts are love in my
book.
XOXO
